By using the Hagerman Backup Connection for Autodesk Vault, appropriate personnel are automatically notified of any issues with your Vault backups. This reduces the risk of data loss and gives engineering management a window into the status of Vault backups performed by IT.
Please note that while the Hagerman Backup Connection for Vault greatly reduces the risk of data loss, it's still important to manually view backup folders and files and periodically restore and validate Vault backups. Also, remember to move/copy your Vault backup folders to a secure location to fully prevent data loss. Hagerman & Company is not responsible for any loss of Autodesk Vault files or data.
How Autodesk Vault Backups Work
Autodesk Vault stores data in two places that must stay in sync: a SQL database and a file store. Vault's own backup tool, in the Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS) Console, backs up both together. Admins can run it from the console, from the command line, or on a schedule with Windows Task Scheduler.
Autodesk recommends testing your restore process, not just your backups, and warns against backing up the SQL database and file store separately with tape software, because they can fall out of sync.
Where Backup Connection fits: Vault's tools run the backup. Backup Connection checks that the backups actually happened and reports the results every day, so a failed or missed backup doesn't go unnoticed.
