Vault Services Keep Omnitech Automation Up To Date

Discover how Omnitech Automation successfully upgraded their Vault data management system from 2014 to 2023. This seamless migration streamlined internal processes, enhanced database management, and ensured the preservation of custom designs, supporting Omnitech’s commitment to quality and service.

Customer challenge

In 1965, Omnitech Automation opened its doors as a custom automated equipment manufacturer focused on providing customers with designs and machines that explicitly catered to their needs. Since its inception over 50 years ago, the company’s commitment and emphasis on quality and service have remained at the forefront of its decision-making. Today, Omnitech leverages leading-edge in-house systems and its highly experienced staff of automation experts as one of the countries’ premier custom automated equipment manufacturers.

Omnitech identified a problem they had not been able to address since before the COVID-19 pandemic: their Vault data management system was outdated and needed an upgrade. The upgrade from Vault Basic 2014 to Vault Basic 2023 was crucial for their business growth and for maintaining their unique designs and drawings collection.

Project goals

In late 2022, Omnitech Automation identified an opportunity to upgrade its Vault data management system to the current version. Collaboration with our team helped determine the steps and process needed to do so. The project’s goal was to install a new physical server and then, through a multi-step migration and upgrade process, migrate their database and custom content libraries from the Vault Basic 2014 server to the new server and Vault Basic Server 2023.

Solution

The solution was delivered through consulting and installation services provided by Application Consultants David Taylor and Jeffery Newton – taking approximately two months to complete from the start of the consultation to the scheduling of migration and installation. Training was provided to help the Omnitech team better understand the newer Vault systems to integrate Inventor and leverage iLogic.

To ensure that Omnitech Automation could maintain its work processes and job flow process without interference, our Application Consultants coordinated the installation of the new physical server while running the current server in tandem.

Business outcome

Omnitech Automation’s decision to collaborate proved highly successful. The evolution of Vault has helped Omnitech streamline its internal processes and enhance its capabilities surrounding the management of its custom libraries and database.

Conclusion

The multi-step migration process through the different Vault versions was painless for Omnitech Automation. Overall, the enhancement of their Vault data management capabilities should be beneficial for Omnitech. Maintaining their custom designs and drawings effectively and efficiently will help ensure continued success and commitment to quality and service.
